In support of fighting the COVID-19 war, the Ministry of Health & Social Services (MoHSS) department in Lüderitz was this week empowered with equipment to the value of N$ 100,000 sponsored by the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, through its subsidiary, Hangana Seafood, in particular, Hangana Abalone in Lüderitz. The donation will empower first responders in the health sector to serve their purpose effectively during this time.
According to General Manager of Hangana Abalone, Aune Nantinda, the N$ 100,000 was initially a pledge by the O&L Group, through Hangana Seafood in support of the annual Crayfish Festival, which was cancelled this year, as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and thus diverted to support the fight against the virus. Nantinda: “Hangana Abalone is passionate about uplifting our community, and making a positive impact when and where possible. We passionately serve the O&L purpose of ‘Creating a future, enhancing life’, and intend to be a catalyst for positive change as best we can. Upon consultation with the health department in Lüderitz in identifying their immediate needs, we sponsored five hundred-and-eleven (511) overalls for first responders, as well as ten (10) laser thermometers, and one-hundred (100) digital thermometers to assist with the temperature check of people placed in isolation and quarantine. We would like to acknowledge and appreciate the Lüderitz Town Council – organizer of the annual Crayfish Festival – for their efforts every year, and for their approval of the funds to be used for this cause. This act of selflessness and support of the local community will go a long way.”
Accepting the donation on behalf of the MoHSS, District Senior Medical Officer, responsible for Lüderitz, Oranjemund and Rosh Pinah, Dr. Ali Mbuyi at the handover commended O&L and Hangana’s support as a welcome gesture in these unprecedented times. Mbuyi: “This donation allows us to serve. Words cannot express our immense gratitude at this kind and welcome gesture. This donation will empower us to serve our purpose, and in so doing, serve our community. On behalf of the residents of Lüderitz, a big thank you.”
